World Record Breaker.

Faith Kipyegon, a Kenyan athlete, recently broke the world record in the 5000m race. She achieved this feat at the Diamond League meet in Paris on June 10, 2023. Kipyegon completed the race in a time of 14 minutes and 5.20 seconds, surpassing the previous record set by Letesenbet Gidey of Ethiopia in 2020 by 1.42 seconds. This remarkable achievement came just one week after Kipyegon set a world record in the 1500m race at the Golden Gala meet in Florence, where she lowered the previous record by almost a second.

Kipyegon, a two-time Olympic and world champion in the 1500m, had not competed in the 5000m for eight years prior to this race. Her performance in Paris demonstrated her exceptional talent and determination as she pulled ahead of Letesenbet Gidey in the final 400 meters. It’s worth noting that Kipyegon’s recent accomplishments include breaking the world record in the 1500m as well, with a time of 3 minutes and 49.11 seconds.
