UBOS to review census recruitment issues

UBOS director, Chris Mukisa

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has sought to address a range of concerns stemming from the ongoing recruitment of census enumerators and supervisors for Uganda’s upcoming sixth census, slated to run from May 10th to May 20th.

Despite launching an extensive electronic recruitment campaign across the nation last month, UBOS Executive Director Chris Mukiza has acknowledged the influx of numerous complaints. Of particular note are the grievances voiced by qualified individuals who found themselves excluded from the selection process, at the expense of unqualified candidates.

To tackle these pressing issues, Mukiza has taken proactive steps. He has announced an extension of the public display of the list of selected candidates until April 12th, allowing aggrieved parties more time to scrutinize the selection process. Furthermore, he has urged those with complaints to provide tangible evidence of their applications to the district recruitment teams. These teams are operating in close coordination with UBOS’s Human Resource department to ensure a thorough review.

In addition to addressing concerns about the selection process, Mukiza has sounded a warning about fraudulent activities surrounding the recruitment drive. He has unequivocally stated that participation in the application process is entirely free of charge. Any attempts to solicit payment from applicants should be promptly reported to the authorities for investigation. This underscores UBOS’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the recruitment process.

It’s worth noting that UBOS has reiterated the closure of the recruitment portal on March 22nd, emphasizing its adherence to equitable and transparent hiring practices.

“As an organization that values diversity and equal opportunity, UBOS remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring a fair and inclusive selection process for all prospective census enumerators and supervisors,” Chris Mukisa said.
