Al-Shabaab militants in Lamu kill two, torch two vehicles

Two vehicles touched in Lamu

In a harrowing incident on Tuesday, the tranquility of Lamu County was shattered when suspected Al-Shabaab militants launched a brutal attack at the Milihoi area along the Lamu-Witu-Garsen Road.

Two individuals tragically lost their lives when the attackers, numbering around ten, intercepted a vehicle en route from Mombasa to Lamu. The assailants, targeting a consignment of liquor, mercilessly executed the driver and his assistant after forcing them out of the vehicle.

The sudden eruption of gunfire prompted a swift response from officers stationed at the nearby Milhoi camp. A fierce exchange ensued, lasting approximately an hour, as the security forces confronted the attackers. Despite their efforts, the assailants managed to escape into the dense forest that skirts the area.

In the aftermath of this violent encounter, a comprehensive operation has been initiated by security personnel with the aim of apprehending the perpetrators. The authorities are calling for vigilance and cooperation from the public as they work to restore safety and order in the region.

This incident has once again highlighted the persistent threat posed by terrorist groups in the area and the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in combating such attacks.
