54-year-old man arrested for allegedly murdering his wife

A 54 year old man has been apprehended by Rukingiri police for allegedly murdering his wife Enid Ndyomugyenyi aged 44.

The suspect has been identified as James Kashaija a resident of Rwanama village, Kahoko parish, Nyakishenyi Sub-County.

According to Elly Maate the Kigezi region police spokesperson, the suspect returned home from evening walks from Omukikona trading center on Wednesday woke her up and accused of being drunk.

In a turn of events, the wife retaliated and told him he also takes alcohol which annoyed him, prompting him to remove gumboots which he used to beat her.

Additionally, Maate revealed that, the suspect also pulled the wife off the bed to the floor and got an old timber which he used to cain her on the knees, legs and later squeezed her neck.

“Following the scuffle, the man is said to have decided to sleep in a separate room. However when he woke up in the morning and checked on the wife, he found she was dead. He however informed the daughter who also informed the neighbors who called the police,” according to Elly Maate.

Maate revealed that the police visited the crime scene and exhibits like gumboots and an old timber was recovered before the suspect was subsequently arrested and the body of the deceased transferred to Rwakabengo Health centre III Mortuary for postmortem.
