Tina Turner, known as the “Queen of Rock’n’Roll,” passed away peacefully today at the age of 83 in Kusnacht, Switzerland, close to Zurich, according to a statement from her publicist.

The singer gained notoriety in the 1960s when she toured with her husband, Ike Turner, and overcame his violent and abusive behavior to become a successful solo performer.

Turner gained a devoted following thanks to her electrifying live performances and is best known for songs like “Private Dancer,” “The Best,” “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” and “Proud Mary.”.

Turner, who was born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939, in Nutbush, Tennessee, would go on to sell more than 180 million albums and win 12 Grammy Awards.

Turner received a kidney transplant in 2017 after learning that he had intestinal cancer in 2016.

The legendary singer was honoured by celebrities including Mick Jagger, Bryan Adams, Rosario Dawson, Paloma Faith, and Naomi Campbell.
