At slightest 120 individuals were murdered and 850 harmed
Government officials in the eastern state of Odisha reported that a devastating train collision has resulted in the death of at least 120 individuals and left 850 injured. This catastrophe is considered to be one of the worst railway accidents to occur in India in recent years.
As per Sudhanshu Sarangi, the fire department’s director general in Odisha, more than 120 corpses have been found at present. He also mentioned that the number of casualties could further increase if the search party persists. Reuters reported the dismal details.
According to a tweet by Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena, approximately 850 individuals have been transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment, and over 200 ambulances have been deployed.
Rescuers were seen ascending the twisted wreckage of one of the trains in search of individuals who had survived, as depicted in the images from the location.
An individual who was present at the location shared with Reuters that they witnessed bloodshed, fractured body parts, and individuals succumbing to their injuries in close proximity to them. They relayed this information through a phone conversation with the news agency.
A large number of youth queued outside a governmental medical facility in Soro, Odisha, with the intention of providing blood donations.
Railway officials reported that the Howrah Superfast Express collided with the Coromandel Express on Friday evening while traveling between Kolkata and Chennai.
As per the statement made by the South Eastern Railway authorities, the Coromandel Express came in contact with and caused the derailment of the Howrah Superfast Express.
According to Odisha’s Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, their primary focus is to prioritize shifting the survivors to hospitals and providing them with proper care and attention, as their welfare is of utmost importance.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that rescue missions were being conducted at the location and they were providing all the necessary support to those impacted.
According to a tweet by federal Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, rescue teams have been dispatched from both Bhubaneswar in Odisha and Kolkata in West Bengal.
He stated that the incident had prompted the National Disaster Response Force, state government teams, and the air force to take action.
