Jubilee Party’s Internal Dispute Resolution Tribunal has invalidated the notification that was issued for the party’s National Delegates Convention. The event, which took place at Ngong Racecourse, was called by former President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, on May 22.
The committee, led by Gideon Solonka, determined that Uhuru had violated the party’s constitution. The committee’s ruling stated that he had disregarded the law by issuing a notice for the National Delegates Convention without meeting the quorum requirements set during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on April 28, 2023.
In a decision issued on May 30, the committee explicitly stated that “The Respondent (Kenyatta) did not comply with the Party constitution when publishing the notifications for the NEC meeting on April 28, 2023, and the SNDC on May 22, 2023.” Consequently, all the resolutions made during the meeting by Uhuru Kenyatta and other Jubilee leaders have been deemed null and void.
During the convention, Uhuru made significant changes to the party’s leadership and expelled members who exhibited defiance. Some of the alterations made by Uhuru included the removal of Sabina Chege, Kanini Kega, and Nelson Dzuya.
