Former Kapchorwa IO, UPDF soldiers among six arrested in Bukwo district shooting robbery

A team of police officers from Bukwo together with flying Squad with UPDF and Crime Intelligence have arrested six Suspects in Connection to Alleged Robbery of Cash 170M Ushs.

On 10/may/2024 the said robbers robbed from one Rotich Ben a business man,a resident of kapkureson cell,kapkureson ward Bukwo Town Council in Bukwo District and his wife Chebet Jackline, at their Residence at about 19: 30 pm.

According to Chesang FredMark, the Sipi region police spokesperson,the robbers were armed with Smg Ak 47 rifle.

At the time of incident, the robbers, shot in the air and the cartridge hit the wife on the head injuring her, they grabbed the bag containing the money and rushed to their awaiting MV Reg No-UBP615C Haria white in colour and drove away and later abandoned it at Bukwo General Hospital and they disappeared.

Chesang revealed that the robbers left some documents and two mobile phones in the vehicle after the public and the police mounted pressure on them.

“The phones and documents helped the police to track the robbers and arrested them . The robbers were arrested in different Districts,soroti,mbale,Budaka, Kapchorwa and Bukwo,” Chesang said.

The police identified the robbers after arrest as follows.

1-Masai Peter, a male aged 37 years ,sabiny, a resident of merewo village,kapmutumwo parish, Bukwo Sub County, Bukwo District.

2-Cheshari Amuri Pius male, aged 43 years, resident of Rebero cell,kapsinda ward, Central Division Kapchorwa municipality (Former UPDF Deserter).

3-Privete Epaja David, male aged 30 years,UPDF officer attached to Magamaga UPDF barracks.

4-Angura John Robert aged 29yr resident of TV Cell,Opira ward Soroti West Division, Soroti City.

5-Gonsysa Brian, aged 39 years, mugwere by tribe, resident of Nyanja ,Nyanja parish, Migaiti sub county in Budaka District .

6-RA-194611 Cpl Torit George Sector IO Rwakaka in mbale .

Chesang said Torit was arrested and taken to UPF detention facility Bugema Barracks but later escaped.

Further, he noted that a numbeless Gun Ak47 rifle with 30 rounds was recovered from Torit George and exhibited by police.

He noted that five UPDF soldiers who were guarding him have been arrested for aiding his escape.

Five of the suspects have been transferred to Moroto Court martial for trial.

“The police condemned the indiscipline of some errant sister UPDF officers and we wish to inform the members of the public that serious measures are being taken to ensure that all those involved in criminal acts will face the law accordingly,” Chesang said.

The police further appealed to the members of the public to always be vigilant and report to police such wrong elements for action.

“Business men are urged to have private security guards in their Business premises and Residences when having large sum. amounts of money,” he added.
